Rope halters

When you get your calf home you should be around them everyday, a couple hours at least. The animal needs to get use to you and its surroundings. One of the biggest things you don't want to do is touch its head, avoid the head area because that is going to make the animal 'heady'. If your animal becomes heady they will try and hit you with their head and won't want to stand still in the show arena.

Make sure you are trying to put a rope halter on your animal everyday and tie him. keep his head tied up high, this gets the animal trained to walk with its head up. Get the steer to cooperate with putting a halter on and tiring him up before you try and walk him.
