When you finally get your animal to the first show, things may not be that easy. For me the first show is always a mess and there are a lot of nerves that go with it.
This past weekend I took my steer to his first show and I was very nervous, I wasn't sure how he was going to cooperate or what he was going to do. My biggest fear is from my animal to get away from me.
As I got to the show and unloaded him off the trailer he was very alert with everything, you are the showman need to stay calm, they can feel your nerves through the show halter and if you are going to act 'off' they are going to as well. I can't stress enough that you need to STAY CALM. The animal only knows you at these shows.
Going to other shows besides your county fair really benefits the animal, when they go to their first show they are going to end up losing about 50 pounds on the way to the show because they aren't use to being trailered. They will be super alert about everything, there is a lot of commotion that goes on. the more extra shows your steer goes to, the more they will get use to it all.
PUT YOURSELF IN THE AMIALS SHOES!
